Feb. `09 From Point Loma
Fish Puerto Santo Tomas, Colonet, Camalu and San Quintin/ Isle St Martin
February 14-16, 2009
With sportfish closures in U.S. waters, we'll take advantage of the summer berth and do a few 2.5-3 day trips into Mexico. 2.5-3 day trip rates range from $395 to $475+ and are inclusive of bait and meals. Ports and destinations (fuel) determine the trip prices. Rockfish and bass are plentiful with good shots at white sea bass and yellowtail. Both California and Mexican fishing licenses are required.
Trips for 2009 are limited to 13 kayaks. No boat fishermen to fill out the load, kayak anglers only. Anglers will have a sleeper bunk and a bunk for their dry gear (a few anglers will share a gear bunk if needed). Anglers are assigned individual bins for their wet gear onboard.

Lobster Hooping at The Channel Islands- March/April `09
This trips leaves early so we can get set up at the Islands in daylight and only sails when the bugs are crawling. The Black Pearl returns to port in the early morning hours. With enough demand and limited loads, we'll run Saturday too.

A few trip selections for Kayakfishing.com sponsored trips...
Santa Catalina AND San Clemente Islands for
yellowtail, white sea bass, halibut+.
Mexico's Northern Baja Coast for yellowtail, white sea bass and groundfish
Ventura/Santa Barbara Salmon when they return and the LOG California barracuda that accompany them.
Well
fish San Nicolas and San Miguel Islands through the
course of the year.
Five Couples to Catalina- A great winter
weekend trip. Fishing, Island Tours, run of the Pearl a romantic night ashore in
Avalon. This trip will sail in the off season patterned like a private mini cruise
with gourmet food and drink. Mostly fishing for bass and halibut. 2-3 days.
5-6 Day Mothership Trips"- Starting in 2009, 2 Long Range Trips will go offshore for tuna and fish the Channel Islands for yellowtail, WSB and halibut.
Were going offshore to fish the TUNA. In season, well fish offshore for tunas including albacore and yellowfin plus dorado. Bluefin and the ultimate catch, bigeye tuna are mixed in too. These are specialized trips for hearty kayak anglers. The price is a little higher (fuel, lighter load), the food's a little beefier and the hook-ups can be pretty intense.
Special White Sea Bass Runs from
San Diego in February `09- We'll run 2 day trips to Catalina when the fish show
up!
General Trip Notes:
1) Trip Info- Barracuda, lingcod, rockfish, sheephead, halibut, white sea bass, ocean white fish, yellowtail, thresher and leopard sharks and trophy kelp bass are all in the counts around the Islands. 20 # outfits plus one heavier (30-40#) are recommended. For detailed gear lists with tackle and equipment recommendations plus trip info and directions to the landings, just email us when you make your reservation
2) Lobster Hooping - In season, we'll fish the spiny lobsters around the Islands so bring your hoops and your (new) DFG spiny lobster report cards on multi-day trips!
3) Trip Payments- For trips departing from San Diego: Mail Checks to Black Pearl Sportfishing 3600 South Harbor Blvd Oxnard, CA 93035. For trips departing from Channel Islands Harbor, Either mail your check to the Oxnard address or pay by credit Card with the landing at 1-805-382-6233. Sorry, credit card payments are not yet available for Point Loma departures.
4) Gratuities- Tipping is customary on fishing boats and figures into crew pay like any other profession where tipping is customary. On a trip where the service and skills were there and the crew is deserving, 15-20% gratuity is appropriate. 25% is FAT ! There is a lot of controversy among the sport fleet about "Jackpots". Spike's position is that "Jackpots belong to the angler. There will be no pressure on any Kayakfishing.com endorsed trips to surrender a jackpot to a boat. Likewise, entering a jackpot is optional and voluntary. While many anglers are compelled to tip out the boat with all or part of their jackpot winnings, winning a jackpot means another fishing opportunity or a new piece of gear to just as many anglers. Please tip your crew appropriately"
5) Specialized Tuna Trips-Very limited load, very specialized fishing orchestrated by The Pearl's Crew. We're looking for fish over 100#. Lots of time OTW. Tuna trips run approximately $350 per day per person and start in July/August. While a few Tuna Trips will be scheduled during the season, consider signing up for the "Hot Bite List" that will insure you get an alert (via email and telephone) when the tuna turn on.
