I fished with Kayak Jack out of Fort Ross Friday for one 25 1/2 inch ling and a limit of coppers, olives and a black rockfish.  All on the irons.  Easy conditions with fog, swell about 6 foot and a butt cold 48 degree water temp.  Coming back above Bodega Bay, I watched a BIG bird of prey repeatedly dive-bomb a BIG buck running along the coastal bluff between Highway 1 and the waterline.  Awesome sight.

I got stuck by a copper spine on my ring finger that burned to the shoulder for about 3 hours. Worse than any sculpin stick to date, this was really toxic and got me a little sick.  No fun or lasting effects beyond a hole in my finger.

A note on Fort Ross.  Back in the 15 or 1600's, the Russians enslaved Eskimos to hunt marine fur animals....from kayaks!  They hunted them all the way down to Baja with Fort Ross a major hub (Russian River).
Of all the days to lose power on my camera...Jack said he'll forward a few...once his wife has time!

Nice job on the fish.

Ouch! Shocked I remember Robby getting hit by a Red, it only lasted 45 minutes not 3 hours.
Ever since then, he wore gloves.  I prefer not to touch them at all. Use pliers, scissors, gaff and dive ring.

That must have been some pain to last that long.  Did you swell up?
