Fishing This Sunday 6/15

Hey hey,
Finally getting to fish! Probably hit Westwards or Broad Beach early if anyone wants to join.
Years ago I fished out of San Diego with one of my close friends Trout (and pushed him into the surf for his first kayak fish ever), and made a couple of trips with Spike down to Mex. Hope to meet up with the LA crew!
Let me know,

JJ, I'm thinking about hitting it tomarrow as well. It's kinda windy today and the seas are rough, but I've been spending too much time reading and posting and despretely need to actually fish. But... Westward will probaly be a tough launch with surf and windy conditions, and Broadbeach has really bad beach erosion with a 8' drop and yesterday the public access gates appeared closed. I'm thinking Coral or Escondido, someplace on the south side of Pt.Dume, a little protected. Call me if you want to connect, 3210 4578301.
Check Adam's post on shark encounter in Hawaii. We mayhave have met down at the Bufadora on one of Spike's trips, anyway good luck-Scott

Thanks Scott. Yea, I saw the ocean today but will probably give it a go at Westwards. Wind came up hard around 11, so I will be on it early. Bummer I got your response so late, in the future I will give you a call. Might end up at Escondido. I have a white new style VW bug with a green ocean kayak prowler.
I got Trout's shark encounter story by phone while he was driving back from the Westside. I can't believe he did not walk on water and jump on the boat filming. Every year or so during our University years, he would say he wanted to go spearfishing with me. Without fail, every time he would swim out just past the surf, he would inform me he saw 'another' great white, and would swim as fast as he could back to shore. I am proud of him. Nowadays he is more scared of his wife finding out about the sharks than seeing them himself.
Look forward to fishing,
J.J.
PS I think I would remember meeting you in Mex, although that rattle snake tequila took its toll..............

Ahhhh, yea now I remember. Thanks Spike.
Fished Westwards for a fun father's day on the water. Launched just before 6 a.m., the high tide and long period south swell made the launch pretty mellow. I have yet to get a depth finder for my new boat so I was shooting in the dark for the canyons. I found the sand dabs, so at least knew I was in the wrong spots. I tried the boiler rocks as well, but nothing doing.
The octopus were wide open : ), with two landed and somehow successfully released. I learned a valuable lesson on a past trip, dont let them get sucked onto the side of your boat, especially a big one. They of course go towards the water, and eventually crawl under your boat. You are then stuck waiting for them to release, only to try all over again to get the hook out. Anyone have any tips to better handle them?
Ended up keeping a few sand dabs, which will be breaded in panko and fried tonight for dinner. Ummmmmmmm.
Did you get out Scott?
Everyone have a great week,
J.J.
