Has anyone ever heard of getting antibiotic resistant skin infections (MRSA) from the ocean? I have read a couple of reports on surfing sites, but that's all. I spent several days OTW just before getting one.  Undecided

I haven't heard of it Dennis but I've often wondered.  A biologist told me the scumline is made of of organic matter and I shoulkdn't worry about it.  I still do.    Is the surf site info conclusive?  I have resistant staff for 30 years now.  I picked it up from working in the burn center at Sherman Oaks Hospital.  It probably pays to stay off the water after rain.

Obviously, there is no way to be sure where or when I got the mrsa infection, but it was potent enough to put me in the hospital for a week with 2 more weeks of IV antibiotics at home. And the worst part. . . . off the water until it's completely healed. As with all other potential threats in our sport, knowledge is good, so here are a couple of links to information related to mrsa in the ocean and things to watch for.

Kinda scary for me being on immune suppressant drugs. But I'll fish any way because tomorrow may never come and I want the memories. I go to the dermatologist next week and will ask this question if I think about it when there. And post back here
