The weather has been beautiful here, sunny in the 80s most days, with the wind laying down allowing fishing the flats until the middle of the day.  I took Thursday and Friday off work to take advantage of the perfect conditions and fish the Mosquito Lagoon.  I fished all three days with guys from the Orlando Kayak Fishing Club.  If you are in this area, you could do a lot worse than fishing with these guys.

Thursday was the best day.  I got two redfish and five trout, all in no more than a foot of water.  I finally have standing and poling my Native Ultimate down.  It's a big advantage when sight fishing.  Three of the trout were big, and two were monsters at 24", 28" and 29".

Friday was still good, with two more redfish and another decent trout.  We got into a short early period of perfect glassy water and redfish tailing across a large flat.  This post in the OKFC forum has a shot of me with a very nice redfish.  Thanks to Djohnston for taking the photo and Mikewong for posting it.

After paddling 10 miles both Thursday and Friday, Saturday was a little more painful and the fishing was slower.  Everyone heard the bite was on and the powerboats were beating the flats up.  Caught some small to medium sized trout.  One of the forum members that I have been fishing with a lot brings his son sometimes.  Little Frederick is 3 years old, and you have to see this kid on the water to believe it.  He sits in that kayak for 10 hours, and loves every minute of it.  He got a catfish on his own little rod.

Sunday we decided to miss the boats, and hang out on the beach.  The other guys surf fished, while I laid around nursing my blisters and sore muscles.  We stayed on the beach at the Canaveral National Seashore to watch the shuttle launch just after the sun dipped below the horizon.
