Where is the best place to fish for Halibut at Leo Carrillo?  I know you launch at the North Beach, but do you head north or south, or do you fish right out front.  Any help would be appericated.

The whole area holds.  My first one was at the edge of the south kelp.  Jeff Krieger took a 50# er in front of the condos in 50 feet on the north end.  I've landed them in all the soft sand spots and around the kelp edges.  I've seen legals breaking water as I paddle through the surf zone.
Always return to spots where they have been landed before.
The deepwater on the whole outside of leo, from 50-90' produces halibut.  More buts on bait but lures work too.

I think more guys actually launch at the south stair. Except for extreme low tides when the you have to drag your boat over the rocky portion to launch, it's a more popular launch area. (Maybe because we're a bunch of cheapskates and don't want to pay the $10 to park at the north lot). A dedicated group of guys target the halibut straight out from that stair to about 1/2 mile south, out pretty far past the kelp in about 80-120' of water. But Spike is right, they're all over the place.
Good Luck, if you catch one on the first time out, you're a hell of of lot luckier than most of us.
