Escondido Beach - Fri 5/16

Launched late due to overnight baby feeding and care...may be tough for me to get out in the mornings for awhile.
Kracky and I headed out about 10am from Escondido as one yakker came in and a few more were either just on the water or launching. Easy launch as usual and headed out to drop scampi's on my old spots that I used to do well on. hooked up a couple of fat sardines and headed out to about 45 ft depth near some pots. Drifted for a couple of bites then headed south towards Kracky fishing the fisrt point towards Corral.
Caught a couple of small sandies there then a little west wind picked up. I left Kracky to fish the point and headed back north towards the pier and Dick Clarks house. (at least thats the rumor of who lives there). Strange day of wind where it would blow from the west with a cool wind and small whitecaps. Then it would lay down for a short time and a hot NW wind would blow in off the mountains to warm things up. Did a slow drift with the 'dines and had another good bite that picked me up and took off. But the bait was spit and when I pulled it up it had the teeth markings of a ray or guitarfish. Probably not a halibut.
The rest of the drift back produced a couple of small calicos then the west wind really started blowing so I headed in around 3:30pm.
It was great to get out on the water after a long hiatus and stressful time with the newborn over the last 3 weeks. May try to get out Sunday morning before the paternity leave expires and I have to go back to work.
Looking forward to fishing with the old crew sometime, JRD, Vinnie, Leo, jscott, BigBoy or any of the other old timers. Oh ya, how could I mention old timers and not remember Scott!
Keep up the posts and reports guys lets get this board rolling!

Hey Brian,
Nice hearing from you. Congrats on the Little one. Fished Pt Dume yesterday for some real nice fat reds, strawberries, rosies and a bocaccio that was impressively huge. I have a bunch of pics but have no idea how to post. Im free next Sunday and monday if you wanna fish.
