Flats, but no tails

The weather this past week was finally perfect to hit the flats. 80 degrees and sunny with no wind to light breezes all day long. I had to work Tuesday, but Jay got out to the Mosquito Lagoon and they saw a lot of reds tailing and caught a couple. He said the fish were really skittish there, so Wednesday we paddled out at daybreak to a spot with a lot less pressure on the upper Indian River. We paddled all over clear flats with a great bottom - fishy food everywhere. We saw a few on the bottom but none tailing. Jay had to leave at 10:00, so I decided to go over to the Mosquito Lagoon, out the Canaveral National Seashore to Eddy Creek boat ramp. I paddled from 11:00 to 4:00 without making a cast. I even tried paddling a couple miles out to the Whale's Tail - a famous flat out in the middle of the lagoon. At least I wasn't paying to have a guide pole me around out there with no tails in sight, like several other people were. It was a beautiful day to be on the water in any case.
