By looking at this board not too many people are fishing. I check the board often almost daily It has been windy up here in San Luis Obispo County. So I haven't been out lately hope the weather stops blowing here soon.

If the weather is good, my wife and I are going to try Morro Bay on Saturday. We just got our first kayak (scramber XT) last week end and want to give it try...we did paddle around the bay last Saturday but didn't fish. I'll probably bring my pram as well (we're looking for a good Prowler 13 too). I'm thinking that we will make bait by the commercial docks then drift for halibut and try for rockfish around the rock.

Say hi if you see us! We'll be in a yellow scrambler and my plans-built PK78 pram is hunter green.

It's blowing on the Sonoma Coast through at least Saturday and the news last night said winds were pushing a fire west towards Camp Pendelton.   You guys know what to do the next 3 months...watch that wind.

On the other hand, some bold fishermen don't know what to do and that can cause injury and cost a life.

A few facts:
Hard wind will blow you off your kayak.  The number of anglers who are unable to mount their kayak in open water (execute a "self rescue") is staggering.

I've taken a handful of calls from anglers, recently and over the years, who want to enter the sport with thresher shark fishing.  Forget the guides, DVD's and decade of informative articles on kayak shark fishing or cutting your teeth on bass and halibut, these guys know enough to cut that bullshit and go straight to the sharks.  Unfortunately, if they read at all, you might find these guys on the same fishing grounds with spectra, beer and no sense of the "hot zone".

The most dangerous elements for us out there, beyond stupidity, are wind, fog and other boats.

A few reports comimg my way indicate the halibut are showing up at many of the usual So Cal spots.  All deeper water fish.

Thank you for your website and advice...it is well taken. Our central coast is under a gale watch until late Friday...looks like Saturday will be a "small craft advisory" day...bummer. We may be able to play in Morro Bay by Sunday. If not, the fish will still be there next week

A couple weeks ago it was bad inside port San Luis I had to get out at Avila. I thought I'd have to get off at santa cruze island if grand son couldn't get in, but we were close. I had to explain how dangerous rocks are on shore to him. All was good now we wait till wind dies down.
