Grant & I are headed to alaska with the family in late June and have several days of fishing booked, but do have some free days, and access to Kayaks. Wondering if anyone has any tips for us. Will be staying in Soldanta on the Kenai Peninsula

Never fished there, but someone is guiding for salmon sharks.  Check this link.  http://playak.tv/view_video.php?viewkey=82259d2e4f4234bfec9e

Hey wolfman ... I put together that salmon shark trip last year.  It's not something that is actively being promoted.

Before the shark trip, I spent a few days in a forest service cabin on Hinchenbrook Island, which is in Prince Williams Sound about 70 miles from Valdez.  Lots of chicken sized halibut and great lingcod fishing for lings in the 36-44" range.

We're heading back up to the area this year to fish from a forest service cabin on Montague Island.  Looking for more of the same.

I'll also be going on a kayaking trip (with a fishing rod of course) this year too, with Chris at Liquid Adventure (www.liquid-adventures.com).  He guides out of Seward, which isn't too far from Soldotna.  So Jeff, you may want to check with him.

Hi there.
I'm starting fishing from an inflatable kayak this year, once the silver salmon start showing up. I'm using a Super Lynx by Aire.

Mostly I'll be fishing in Passage Canal out of Whittier, because the silver fishing there is awesome in August, sometimes all the way into late September.

I haven't figured out how I'm going to rig my kayak, because inflatables don't have places to attach regular rod holders. The nice thing about Whittier and Seward is that you can sort of jig small herring rigged with hula skirts and have more success than the trollers do. Especially in Whittier, the silver salmon absolutely slam jigged herring. (Plus, you can jig up a bunch of herring  with a herring rig any time you need bait.)

I'll try to report back after we start seeing how we're doing. Next year we're going to float fish the Kenai for kings and red salmon...too late for this year, but there's about 20 miles of that river that no one can get to without a boat, and we're going to drift it and see what happens.

Just got back from an inside passage cruise.  Noticed this outfit at the Knutson Harbor marina near Ketchican.  http://www.yakfishalaska.com/Wish I had known they were there before I booked a spot on a six-pack.  The pinks were wide
open with a few sliver mixed in.
