It's been a long time since I've been out on the ocean.  Geeze I'm out of shape.  The surf launch in front of the motel was actually pretty easy but I had to pant for a couple minutes after clearing the breakers.  The fish finder was acting up and I still don't know the area well enough to fish blind.  I got one nice black rockfish.  Watched a power boater land a greenling that would have been a legal lingcod.

Thanks for the report Shasta.  I talk to a lot of guys who fish the Nor Cal/Oregon coast for some really big fish.  In bigger conditions, I've been tying to the bull kelp with plenty of scope and a bungee tied in for quick release.  The verticle bite is better with less lost gear.  Let's hook-up sometime, Michelle and I are up to Happy Camp a lot more now.  Anytime you can make it down to the Sonoma coast too.  Michelle runs the hotel at www.vfordhotel.com if you bring the wife, there is a rate (unpublished) for friends, family and kayak fishers.
