fished today, not as good as last week. but still managed to get 14 calis and sandies 2 sharks and 1 short seabass. alot of bait out side. saw a couple of t-s boil.
as you can tell i like escondido easy launch and good fishing right in front. Not sure when next trip but will keep you posted.
ps  there is alot of small barries, i lost alot of tackle today

How do you get to Escondido? I've driven around that area looking for a place to get a yak to the water.

Escondido Beach is a public access at the bridge at Escondido? creek.  Just East of Latigo and a short way West of the 76 Station at Corral beach.  There is a bus stop here, easy to locate.  Bus stop, bridge, gate.
Decent beach for the fam to hang at-no services though.
Anglers have received tickets for loading kayaks in the bus stop.  Parking is on the beach side - west of the bridge - and across the street from there.  Wheels are a plus.  Escondido can be a punishing shore break.  The upside is it is such a narrow surf zone that when other beaches are too big, you can often get out here.  As far as accidents, this is an extra dangerous part of PCH.

I fished out of esco today as well. Stayed inside to focus on halibut. One nice fish, 13 lbs. A few calicos and Sandies. Tide was lowest I have seen it early this morning. Return was the "punishing shore beak" with high tide and swells seemingly stacked up. Got in OK but it was sketchy. Dennis, thanks for the tip on loading at bus stop. I do it every time I'm there and have not been ticketed yet but probably just been lucky. Talked to a couple of guys who fished BKR, lot of bait but no fish. Said they hooked up twice on a live mack with long runs but then dropped the fish.

I checked out your directions on Google Maps satellite view. It looks like it's right at Seagull Dr. or Latigo Shore Dr. I would like to fish the point dume area, what is the best launch point to do that?

Westward beach is the best launch I think.  I'd pay the OUTRAGIOUS parking fee and get up close to the Point.  Heads and showers here.  Easy access to the canyon structure and fishy water. 

It's a long haul back up the line from just a mile east/south when the prevailing west wind kicks up.

It's a long drag up the steep beach back to the parking lot, after landing over the shore break, but doable.

Thanks Spike, your knowledge of the coast and willingness to help out other kayak anglers is undeniably the best!

I wasn't exactly sure what you meant by Westward beach so I looked it up; what a rush of memories when I realized that it is where I spent many of my most favorite teenage days and nights. The beach around the corner of the rocks saw more of my body than would be desirable these days.   I also made quite a bit of money setting up and tearing down my hang glider while it was being used as a prop for an "adult" movie up on the cliff.

Okay, I'll stop the time machine tripping and ask another more relevant question. Assuming I'd be willing to pay the astronomical parking fee, would Paradise Cove be a better launch for the Point Dume area?

Thanks Dennis, my pleasure.
PC does not allow kayak launching (or anything else).  The Cove is not an option unless you live there.  I have lots of resident friends and know the GM, it's not worth the hassle.
