fished out of spooners cove for a excellent bite. full limits plus lings.weather window is looking good

It's a good year for lingcod.  Early too.  Thanks for the report.
I truly believe the shallow water rockfish fishery is one of the best...and most productive...fisheries in California.  While seasonal, it's nice to send guiding guests home with a foundation for the sport, a fat sack of filets and 20 fish released.  It's rare to achieve that tri-fecta in Malibu where I started guiding in the mid `90s.  Lately, I added a cheap spinning reel w/ a`70's era Sabre rod outfit and 30# spectra for fishing the SWRF.  The rod and line make the difference and this combo is a lot more comfortable as a first rod than my traditional Acurate outfits.
