4/16/11 Redondo Beach - a fishing report

I finally saw an opportunity to get out so I launched around 8.30 from King Harbor. The plan was to make bait and slow troll for halibut. I usually just drift, but I read and article in a magazine and it all made perfect sense since I could cover a much larger area by slow trolling a live bait on the bottom.
Unfortunately, the batteries on my fishfinder ran out before I got any bait. I chased some working birds and repeatedly dropped my sabiki, but no luck.
I didn't bring any squid so I had to try something else. I rigged a dropper loop and tried dragging a gulp rubber. Nothing. I also tried dragging some jigs, but no luck today. The water was off color, dirty with lots of foamy brown stuff. Nevertheless, I had a great time finally getting back on the water. I paddled for about three hours and I have the blisters on my thumbs to prove it. Back next weekend!
