This event will be held at Ocean Cove Campground on the Sonoma Coast, about 2 hours north of the Golden Gate Bridge.
We're giving away 4 (four) fishing kayaks as top prizes plus a lot more stuff. The tourney will cover 2 days of fishing, Saturday Fishing will award 3 kayaks in different 1st place categories and will be followed by Awards and *Banquet Saturday evening (heaviest fish, heaviest 5 different fish plus one more category TBD. Sunday is a short session and the winning angler (heaviest fish/biggest abalone) will take home a new boat.
*Included in the $55 registration...We're cooking dinner Friday and Saturday night.
Friday- Girard's Paella- Celebrity chef Girard (he whooped Bobby Flay on "Throwdown") is bringing out the pans and making paella Friday night. Girard is a local and a kayak fisherman who is sponsoring the event to help support our MLPA fight.
Saturday- Awards Banquet- After the Weigh-in and Awards, we eat. It's a catered affair and we're cooking up Surf and Turf plus something that Flew served on a giant platter with half a dozen sides plus desert. The servers will provide a big sheet of foil `cuz few will be able to pound the whole "Trencherman's Plate". Don't buy an extra meal ticket for your wife (or husband), this will feed 2. There will also be a kids service with hamburgers and hot-dogs. Since it's Holloween weekend, maybe we should have a costume contest and/or trick-or-treat? Ocean Cove is a 20 acre private campground with coastal acess right on the coast. It's a great spot to bring the family. Lodgings are close by and we'll list them.
A significant chunk of proceeds plus 100% of the raffle will go towards funding the angler cause with MLPA implementation. The San Diego sport fleet just donated $50,000.00 to the MLPA fight. I'm thinking The Fall Classic could raise at least a few thousand and maybe alot more. We're not waiting for the event either, donations will be forwarded to United Anglers during the registration process right up to event day. They need the money now. Additionally, there are a lot of anglers in need and a few we have the opportunity to help out. A few bitchen donations will be silent auctioned to help those anglers too.
Participants may fish anywhere on the Sonoma Coast as long as they make it to the scales on time. Lincod, cabezon and shallow water rockfish make up the majority of the catch. The fish here are much more plentiful , and bigger, than Big Sur. Releasing 20-30 fish a day is not uncommon.
More to come, feel free to comment and pose questions.
Tournament rules will be included in the Tournament Info and more details will follow this post. Registration will be online here soon.
