I added this to yesterday's limit at Ocean Cove above Jenner CA.
Sorry the image isn't clear, it's a brown fish with BRIGHT blue stripes runing the length of the body and painted around the head.
No big fish landed, Nick lost a 8-10# cabezon at the boat.   No lings or salmon at the ramp.

Near the end of the day, I watched a guy take 5 gaff swings at a 20" lingcod before I paddled over to measure it for him.  A Fish Grip tool (or pliers to remove the hook) woulda sufficed and it made me wonder how many kayak anglers don't know they can be cited in CA for not having a landing net.
Of all the (many stupid) angler modifications I see on new kayaks, you'd think an accommodation for a landing net woulda come long before a cup holder that floats anything you put in it.

How about legislation to allow a lip grabing tool instead of a net?
Less damaging to the little fish you release, and a better tool in my
opinion for releasing small guys. Keepers get the gaff, not a net on
my kayak!

I can't argue that, cheap nets are especially hard on halibut.
