Finally got out for a winter afternoon session, always my favorite, and just like old times, paddling out at County Line at 2pm.  Too bad it was only me and none of the usual oldtimers with me.

Paddled out through 1ft surf and a calm smooth sea surface.  Headed straight for the "hole"  and right towards the squid fleet.  And it was a huge fleet, I dont think I have ever seen that many boats on the water, probably 50 of them.  They were pretty much lined up straight off of Deer Creek and up the line to Sycamore.

Clear water showed lots and lots of bait, smelts, sardines, and lots and lots of mackeral. Made a few smelts and headed towards the markers off the houses at the point. Me and a couple of other private boaters until about 4pm, then only me and the squidders until sunset.  No bites on the smeltys but strips of squid (who would have guessed) produced bites on every drop, and one nice 18 inch Sand Bass to bring home for dinner.  Released about 6 other fish including a small BSB. Farmed a couple of more then headed back in with little sunlight.

Winter fishing in Malibu, no one at the beach, tshirt weather, and calm conditions....gotta love it.
