so the final MPA maps will be available at the DFG website next Thursday, and from what I've heard the Workgroup 2 map leaves the Pt. Dume area alone and draws the eastern boundry at the last restroom at Westward beach, includes all of Zuma, Trancas, and some of Lechuza. So, that leaves a bit of the rockfishing open and the launch at Westward, all of BKR and Paradise Cove, and the Escondido launch. Trancas and farther west is some pretty good fishing, but most times a tough launch, especially with the 6' drop in the beach. So I guess it's the lesser evil. I also heard that there have been an additional 30 DFG wardens hired to enforce the MPA along the entire California coast, so the chance of being sited for fishing slightly over the boundries at Westward make winning the lottery a safe bet. I know they don't even have a boat to use in SM bay, so unless they swim out to us to write us a citation it's not much of an actual issue. I just hate to see government puttin its nose up my business.
I don't know yet how this Workgroup 2 proposal affects the Redondo/Rocky Point area and I know they have more to lose than us. Any comment from you Redondo, OC and San Diego guys?
The last public comment meeting is at the Long Beach Hilton Hotel Executive Meeting Center 701 West Oean Blvd. Long Beach. There is a evening public comment session for us working stiffs. If you want to get more than 30 seconds bring some friends, have them all fill out cards and give you their time, it'll also get you to the front of the line.
Be there or ELSE!
