Met up with Dennis Goff, "Menace" at Deercreek today. That's the kelp a coupla miles north of County Line. Although the online surf report claimed flat conditions, a medium NNW swell, which developed overnight, was obviously evident. Checking the surf and lifeguard sites only tell you so much, until you arrive at the launch destination and see sets of waves that could potentially clean your clock. After we watched several sets and could discern lulls that were totally launchable, we sucked it up and gave it a go. Both of us made it out with no problem, but had to hustle. No time to fiddle around till you're well offshore, as usual.
Once out there, beautiful conditions. Except for fish. Tried all the usual offerings. Not a bite. Great endorsement for total MPA's everywhere, glad the enviros aren't using it. The water temps are up but the fish have retired to Florida. I'm thinking the same.
Actually, wide open big size Pacific Mackeral bite was fun on my trout/bait rig with a small chrome krockadile lure. Caught about 30 of em. Finally packed it in and we landed without incident. So there.

Scott
