I'm going camping at Morro Strand SB in a few weeks. My buddy and I both plan on taking our kayaks and fishing gear.

Anybody have any experience fishing up there? What can I expect? Any suggestions on what tackle I should be using?

Any help would be appreciated.

Rockfish are good out of Montana de Oro.  Lots of blues and olives that are fun fighters, and lingcod and vermillions are there too if you find the right spots.  I have best success fishing the bottom with irons, but plastics work too.  Got two 29" lings in May on 4 oz irons.  Conditions are usually good out of Spooner's Cove, easy summer launch by the rocks, but occasionally big swells or wind can make it difficult.  Try early morning before winds set in.  And watch for no take species (yellow eyes and cowcod).  I'm in Minnesota with the In-laws, fishing bass and walleye, but wishing I was in the ocean!
