Jalama/Big Sur

Good morning!
I am planning a camping trip for the sole purpose of fulfilling my dream of hitting the kelp beds of Jalama. Afterwards I am heading north to where I grew up and want to do some fishing in Big Sur/Carmel Bay/Monterey. I was looking for some rigging suggestions to get into the rock fish in Jalama. I was planning on going through my collection of plastics, but that will take me half a day or more until I find something that might work (when I could have just thrown on a piece of squid caught a few fish and relaxed in the mellow Jalama breezes).
I am also looking for a good launch spot in Big Sur. I have always been stuck on the shore fishing while salivating at the beautiful kelp beds a few hundred yards away (I know a normal guy salivates over the girls in bikinis, but kayak fishermen aren't normal). I remember my dad's friend used to launch his Kleper at "Microscopic Shell Beach." That was not the official name, rather growing up around Big Sur hippies, they had their own names for the beaches. I can't remember the real name or location, but is does have a lot of really cool little shells mixed in with the sand. Ring any bells? Does anyone know any other safe spot that wont get me killed. I am pretty good at launching in the surf, but ain't so good at coming back in (I like to blame my X-Factor, but my wife says it is the pilot not the plane).
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Jeff,
Thanks for the advice, I wasn't even thinking about closures. A lot has changed since I moved down south, I will research it more before I do the second leg of my trip.
Thanks again!
